Dornoch, Sutherland & Surrounding Area:

Dornoch is ideally situated for a Retreat, a holiday or a weekend break. We are only 45 minutes drive from Inverness. Inverness airport is well connected for Glasgow, Edinburgh and London. Dornoch is very easy to get to for those travelling by car, bus or train. It is just off the main A9 road North and only 10 minutes drive from the nearest Train Stations.

The lovely old sandstone buildings in Dornoch's main street "Castle Street" make it a very photogenic town and there are some great shops for those who like to browse and hunt for bargains. Dornoch is surrounded by beautiful scenery, varied wildlife, forest walks and award-winnning beaches. Local attractions like Dornoch Cathedral, the Town Jail, Shin Falls, Dunrobin Castle and the famous Royal Dornoch Golf Course are all well worth a visit. With no shortage of places to enjoy a coffee break or a meal out, you can also indulge your taste buds!

If you want to explore the North of Scotland, then Dornoch is the ideal place to base yourself. Just one day trip by car can take you through breathtaking scenery from the East Coast over to the West & North Coasts and back. One of our favourites is to drive through Dingwall and Strathpeffer up to Ullapool on the West Coast, then on into Lochinver and the beautiful Stoer Peninsula. From there it's difficult to choose between coming back through Scourie, Laxford Bridge, Achfary and down through Lairg or via Durness and Tongue on the North Coast and back down through Altnaharra to Lairg. Either way - you can easily do it in a day and have plenty of time to get out and enjoy the fresh air wherever you stop. Mountains like Ben More Assynt, Suilven, Canisp, Quinag, Foinaven, Ben Hope, Ben Klibreck are all there to enjoy, whether you just look or you walk and climb.
